In Your Dreams...

As this is officially my first blog, I genuinely hope it is a good one. I have decided after working here far more than the usual 3 hours a week, that there just are not enough people blogging on the West Desk. Every time I pull it up, it seems that the same blog is glaring back at me. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the bloggers out there, but here is a call for comments. What I pose to all of you is a glance into your dreams. I don't necessarily mean you need to tell me about Prince Charming or Lady Love (although, I would love to hear those too!). I want to hear about your Library Security dreams. The wackiest, scariest, most whimsical, witty or ridiculous dreams you have had that involve our special forces. To begin...I will share mine of late that inspired this blog.

It happened about a week ago. (Bubbly music and blurring of vision now....) I had closed the library, and it was now after midnight when I decided I would actually sleep in the library. For some reason I assumed that it was necessary for me to stay in the library overnight. Oddly enough, I also believed that I would sleep while watching CCure and the cameras and manning the radio. I suppose in my dreams I am some kind of superwoman who is all knowing and all aware, even while sleeping. Or is it only in my dreams.....? Okay, on with the dream. So, I decided that the spare bed that seemed to be readily available would suffice for the night. I pulled it out into the middle of the walkway past the 3ms on the East side. How I got it past the 3ms, I don't know. It's a dream, right? Everything is easier in a dream.

But here's when the action takes place. Here I am getting some z's, when a female patron decides she will finally leave the library--3 hours after it closed. I immediately wake up. The thiefwoman sees that I have eyed her. Somehow, I know that of the three books in her hand, ONE is not checked out to her. I soar from the bed across the atrium and through the west door where thiefwoman has just "violated the door." Imagine the scene--the darkness and emptiness of campus at 3am, two women are seen streaming across the sidewalk area outside the west atrium doors. I quickly catch up with the woman, pounce on her, and throw her to the ground. I don't remember reading her any rights, but with that kind of a catch, I probably should have. I took repossession of the books and dragged thiefwoman back into the library with me, only to FI her and send her on her merry way. The end. (Bubbly music and more blurring....)

I know...it's an amazing story. It probably has blockbuster potential. Mr. Spielberg, you know where to reach me. We may need to fix the ending a little, but I think it will definitely cause a boom at the boxoffice.

So anybody else want to try....?

Ok, here's a brief summary of one I had a while back. We were all in a training meeting in the South Classrooms. We were talking about theft in the library and apparently there was a priceless blue dress that had been stolen from the museum of art, or something like that, a while back.

Jeff left the room for a minute and when he did I found, by accident the blue dress in Jeff's bag. Well, I was shocked, of course, and I tried to cover it up, but when Jeff came back in he knew that I knew, and he was mad!

The creepy thing was, even though he was mad he didn't stop smiling and laughing. He just said, "Now why did you have to go and do a thing like that?" And then he pulled his gun and everyone ducked for cover. I was hiding behind the podium and he was yelling for me to come out so he could shoot me. It was pretty freaky to watch him suddenly turn like that.

I don't remember how it ends, I just make it a point, now, not to search Jeff's things. :)

I'm always having dreams about people trying to get into the library before we open, or refusing to leave at night. And no matter what I do, people keep coming into the Atrium.

Course, is it any wonder I would have dreams about people dieing to get in here? Just this afternoon a woman looked horrified when I informed her we would be closed for the 4th of July. Hello . . . Independence Day!! Kind of an important day to celebrate, don't ya think?

I think we should open on the 4th of July. But only the atrium. And then when all the people who want to be in the library get in there we seal off the exits and GAS THOSE UN-AMERICANS!!

An open library on the 4th, I tell ya. . .

Keeping an institute of learning open on any day is downright un-American, if you ask me.

...and Former, that is one nutsy dream. Somehow I think Jeff would make one heck of a villain, just because he's always happy.
