Common Courtesy
This post is meant for each one of you officers as much as it is me venting about patrons.
Get off your cellphone once in a while!
A girl just went through and she beeped. She was on her cell phone at the time and, instead of getting off and talking to me, she didn't say a word to me, carried on her conversation on the phone and pulled out two ILL books (I still say an IQ test should be required to check out those) and put them on the desk and kept on talking, barely even looking at me. I motioned for her to walk back through and she did, and all was well, but then she put the books back in her bag while she was finishing telling the person where to pick her up and then she left. Not one word was said to me. All I have to say is, I felt insulted!
People, I don't care if you're at the library, making a deposit at the bank, going through a supermarket check-out stand, or ordering at McDonald's. GET OFF YOUR PHONE WHEN YOU'RE INTERACTING WITH SOMEONE! At least give them the courtesy of acknowledging them as a human being and not treating them like they're some kind of automated machine, only there to serve you.
At the ATM, I don't mind if you're on your cell phone. Those things are rude.

Or how how about the people who can't even take their head phones out of their ears long enough to talk to you? I hate it when someone comes up to the desk to ask you where to return books, and they have their music blasting so loud they can't even hear your answer. Yeah, that's annoying.
What do you have against automated machines? Some day, these computer programmer dudes are going to make automated machines (possibly automated TELLER machines) have feelings. Then you will truly feel the wrath of the devil dog when they are programmed to be sassy with you if you are sassy with them. Beware...
I just thought I'd throw that in one more time, just for good measure. And I admit I've been guilty of the heinous crime of talking on the cell while interacting with a human. I am ashamed.
